Local antique and collectibles retail destination, Bygone Times, has donated a sizeable amount of food stock to Moss Side Community Centre in Leyland.
Bygone Times is currently closed to customers, however furloughed staff volunteered to help and hand-delivered the donation earlier this week.
The Moss Side Community Forum team, based at the centre just off Dunkirk Lane, have been working hard to provide meals and everyday essentials such as bread, milk, eggs and fresh fruit and veg, to those struggling locally due to the Coronavirus crisis.
Run by local volunteers, the foodbank’s temporary shop in the town gives families a chance to pop in for essentials and only provide a small monetary donation if they can afford to do so. The team is also delivering parcels to vulnerable people who are self-isolating.
Georgina Livesey, a local Farrington resident and former pupil at Moss Side Primary School, is running the initiative. Georgina said: “Moss Side has always played a ‘massive’ part in my life as it has for everyone else here too. This is why we want to help in any way we can as it’s obviously been a very worrying time for many families.
“We honestly can’t thank Paul and the team at Bygone Times enough. A donation of this size will provide support to dozens of families who need a helping hand right now. I just wish I could have at least shaken his hand! All I can say is a big thank you.”
Due to the size of Bygone’s donation, Moss Side Community Forum has split the food with New Day Church Foodbank in Lostock Hall, as the two hubs are currently coordinating efforts to ensure nobody goes without.
